When you look at a house every day, it is easy to miss how much the exterior paint has faded or how dated the kitchen cabinets have become. It is often only when you see a dramatic before-and-after transformation that you realize the true power of a fresh coat of paint. As a leading painting contractor in Marin County with over 20 years of experience, MoonDance Painting has helped thousands of homeowners revitalize their properties.
In this post, we are sharing some of our favorite recent transformations, from exterior makeovers in San Rafael to kitchen cabinet refinishing in Novato. These projects showcase how the right colors, premium materials, and expert craftsmanship can completely redefine a home.
1. The San Rafael Exterior Refresh: From Faded to Fabulous
The Challenge: A beautiful craftsman home in San Rafael had suffered from years of intense California sun exposure. The original beige paint was peeling, and the trim had lost its definition, making the entire property look tired and dated.
The Transformation: We worked with the homeowners to select a modern, crisp color palette. Using premium Benjamin Moore exterior paints, we transformed the home with a bright, clean white body and striking charcoal gray trim. The high-contrast look instantly modernized the property while respecting its original architecture.
The thorough preparation process — pressure washing, scraping, priming, and caulking — ensured that the new paint adhered perfectly and would last for years. Every MoonDance Painting project comes with a written warranty, giving the homeowners complete peace of mind.
2. Kitchen Cabinet Refinishing in Novato: A Bright New Heart of the Home
The Challenge: A spacious kitchen in Novato felt dark and dated due to heavy, dark-stained oak cabinets. The homeowners wanted a brighter, more open feel without the massive expense and disruption of a full remodel.
The Transformation: Kitchen cabinet refinishing in Marin County is one of our specialties. We meticulously prepped, sanded, and primed the existing cabinet boxes and doors before applying a flawless, factory-like finish in a soft, warm white (Sherwin-Williams Alabaster SW 7012). The result was a kitchen that looked completely new — at a fraction of the cost of replacement.
As California's first certified green painting company, we used low-VOC, eco-friendly materials throughout the project, ensuring a healthy environment for the family.
3. The Mill Valley Deck Restoration: Bringing Outdoor Living Back to Life
The Challenge: A multi-level redwood deck in Mill Valley had turned gray and splintery after years of neglect. The homeowners were hesitant to use the space and worried about safety.
The Transformation: We began with a thorough power washing and sanding process to remove the weathered surface layer. Once the beautiful natural wood grain was exposed, we applied a premium, low-VOC penetrating stain to protect and enhance the wood. The deck was transformed from an eyesore into the centerpiece of the backyard.
4. The Tiburon Interior Modernization: Creating a Cohesive Flow
The Challenge: A sprawling home in Tiburon featured a disjointed color scheme, with each room painted a drastically different color, making the house feel fragmented and smaller than it actually was.
The Transformation: We provided a comprehensive color consultation to help the homeowners select a cohesive, flowing palette of warm neutrals and soft, earthy greens. Using Benjamin Moore's premium interior paints with low-VOC formulas, we transformed the home into a unified, harmonious space. The family could return to their newly painted home without worrying about harsh fumes — a key benefit of our eco-friendly approach.
5. The Corte Madera Commercial Upgrade: Professionalism Restored
The Challenge: A local boutique in Corte Madera needed an exterior facelift to attract more foot traffic. The old paint was chalky and faded, and the colors no longer reflected the modern brand inside the store.
The Transformation: We executed this commercial painting project with minimal disruption to the business. The new, sophisticated color scheme instantly elevated the storefront, making it stand out beautifully on the street. As your local painting contractor in the Bay Area, we understand that commercial properties require tough, durable finishes — and our written warranty ensures long-term protection.
Cabinet Refinishing vs. Full Replacement: A Quick Comparison
If you are considering updating your kitchen, here is a quick look at why cabinet refinishing is often the smarter choice for Marin County homeowners:
| Feature | Full Cabinet Replacement | Professional Cabinet Refinishing |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | $15,000 – $50,000+ | 20–30% of replacement cost |
| Timeline | 4–8 weeks | 1–2 weeks |
| Disruption | High (kitchen unusable) | Low (kitchen mostly usable) |
| Eco-Impact | High waste (old cabinets to landfill) | Low waste (reusing existing materials) |
| Visual Impact | Excellent | Excellent (factory-like finish) |
